Aggrieved Chhatra Dal leaders apologise for BNP office siege

Dhaka, July 3 – The aggrieved leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal including those were expelled from the organization yesterday sought apology for the past incidents including locking up at BNP central office and accepted the decision of the party.
The agitating student leaders sought apology at an urgent press conference at the ground floor of the party headquarters at Naya Paltan.
On behalf of the agitating student leaders, president of north city unit of JCD Zahiruddin Tuhin, one of the 12 expelled leaders, read out the written statement at the pres conference.
“We are shocked and stunned at the recent untoward incidents happened at BNP central office and its adjacent areas at a stage of JCD reorganization process. The incidents tarnished the image of the party,” read the statement.
“We express our apologies for the incidents. Hence, we promise to be loyal in regards to party decision and abide the decision of party’s respected acting chairman Tarique Rahman.”
The leaders however claimed that there were not involved in the incidents and said they don’t believe any loyal and trustworthy worker can do this.
“We think, vested quarters might have occurred the incidents taking advantage of the situation” said the statement.
During the movement to withdraw age-limit for JCD leaders, a section of JCD leaders staged demonstration from June 10 after the party dissolved Rajib-Akram led JCD central committee. They locked up the main of the party central office and took position outside the party office with hockey sticks.
The agitating leaders also created obstacle party leaders to enter the party office and at a stage they vandalize in front of the office and beat some party activists.
In the meantime, the party expelled 12 JCD leaders who were involved in the movement and announced JCD council and poll schedule for July 15.
Sources said, the statement came following series of talks between the agitating leaders and party central leaders and they reached a consensus over the demands of the student leaders.
A total of 26 JCD leaders including the 12, who were expelled from the organization, signed in the statement.
The leaders include former vice presidents and expelled leaders Ajmal Hossain Pilot, Ekhtiar Kabir, Mamun Billah, Joydeb Joy, former joint general secretary Asaduzzaman Asad, Baizid Arefin, Shamsul Alam Rana, Kazi Muktar, Shafiqur Rahman Shafiq and Azizur Rahman Aziz. – Staff Reporter
