Agitation backed by people: BNP

A senior BNP leader has claimed that people are endorsing the Opposition-backed agitation ignoring their hardships and troubles. At a rally in front of Chittagong BNP office on Wednesday, the party Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman claimed that the blockade was going on ‘successfully’.
“Dhaka is besieged and its communication with rest of the country has been snapped,” he said.
BNP and its allies are enforcing a 131-hour nationwide blockade to press for cancellation of election schedule and withdrawal of cases against party leaders.
He said no movement could take place without the participation of people. “The 18-Party opposition alliance has called the blockade programme but the people are the main power behind the agitation.”
The BNP leader, however, admitted that the blockade has caused suffering to the people.
“The people want Sheikh Hasina’s ouster. That’s why they are endorsing the agitation amid hardships,” he said.
Noman said vote would be rigged if the elections were held without the supervision of a caretaker government.
He said the political scenario would change in next 15 days.
On Ershad’s retreat from the next parliamentary polls, the BNP leader said, “The Awami League wanted to contest the election with Ershad as the opposition. But he backed off from the polls yesterday (Tuesday). The Awami League will not be able to hold one-sided election.”
Noman claimed that the Awami League is planning to hold one-sided election. “One group will be elected uncontested. Some are anonymous candidates. They would be paid to stay aside.”
The BNP leader also asked the administration to play a neutral role. – bdnews24.com
