A local activist of Awami League (AL) was chopped to death by a gang of unidentified miscreants at Amtola Balli village in Sadar upazila on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Ezhar Ali, 55, a timber trader and a member of Balli union unit of Awami League.
Inamul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station, said a gang of masked criminals swooped on Ezhar and chopped him with sharp weapons while he was asleep in his house around 4 am, leaving him injured.
He was rushed to Sadar hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 8am.
Police said dispute over land might be the reason behind the murder. -UNB, Satkhira
