AL activist electrocuted while hanging a banner

A local activist of ruling Awami League died from electrocution while hanging a banner on the occasion of the National Mourning Day in the city’s Talaimari area on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Abdur Rashid, 35, son of Ashraf Ali of Kajla Fultala area of the city.

Witnesses said Rashid came in contact with a live electric wire and fell into the ground around 11:45am while he was hanging the banner marking the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, leaving him injured.

Rashid was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 3:10pm.
