AL leader chopped to death in Meherpur

A local leader of ruling Awami League was chopped to death by miscreants at Banshbaria village in Gangni upazila early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Nurul Amin, 38, general secretary of Gangni municipality ward no 1 unit of Awami League and son of Nasir Uddin of Banshbaria.

Quoting family members, officer-in-charge of Gangni Police Station Masudul Alam said Nurul came under attack by a group of miscreants beside an Eidgah (An open air mosque to perform Eid prayers) near his house at about 2:00am while he was returning home from Banshbaria Bazar after ending electioneering work for independent candidate Mokbul Hossain for the upcoming January 5 general election.

The criminals chopped him indiscriminately with sharp weapons, leaving him dead on the spot.

Family members claimed that Nurul was killed out of political vengeance.

On information, police recovered the body that bore several stab marks and took it to Gangni Police Station. -UNB, Meherpur
