Unidentified miscreants on Friday evening shot dead a local Awami League leader and injured another person in Sharishabari upazila of the district.The dead was identified as Abdul Hanif, 45, President, Ward No-2, of Doail Union Awami League and son of Ifat Mandol at village Hatbari under Sharishabari upazila. The injured is Mozaffar Hossain Mukta, 45.Police said the incident took place around 7:30pm in Hatbari area in the upazila while Hanif and Mukta were taking tea at a shop.Officer-in-charge of Sharishabari Police Station M Billaluddin told BSS that two unidentified miscreants riding on a motorbike opened fire on the two. In the incident, Hanif received bullet on his head and Mukta on his leg, he said.Later, locals rushed Mukta to Mymensingh Medical Hospital.Immediately after the incident, the police rushed to the spot and recovered the body of Hanif and sent it to Jamalpur General Hospital Morgue for autopsy. -BSS, Jamalpur
