AL leader’s mother wounded in city gun attack

Dhaka, Jan 11 – Gunmen stormed the flat of a local Awami League leader in the city’s Chamelibagh area on Wednesday evening and fired shots, injuring his mother.The injured was identified as Sharmin Yasmin Alo, 55, mother of Ali Reza Rana, former organising secretary of ward-33 unit of Awami League.
Quoting flat inmates, police said a gang of gunmen, numbering 3-4, went to Rana’s 5th floor apartment of a seven-storey building at Chamelibagh under Paltan Police Station around 6 pm and pressed the calling bell.
As Sharmin opened the door, the gangsters inquired about Rana to her, said sub-inspector Moniruzzaman of the police station.
When the AL leader’s mother replied that her son was not there inside, they opened fire on her and left the scene, he said.
With multiple bullet wounds at different parts of the body, Sharmin was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the SI added. – UNB
