A union parishad chairman sustained stab injuries in an attack allegedly by activists of the ruling Awami League at Dakhkhin Keowa village in Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.
The injured was identified as Sona Miah Bepari, 70, chairman of Mohakali union parishad and an adviser of the upazila unit of BNP.Sona’s younger brother Samad Bepari said a group of miscreants, numbering 7-8, stormed the house of Sona Miah at the village around 9:15am and called him out of the house.The miscreants then forced Sona to arrange casting of all votes of his area for the AL-supported candidate in the Thursday’s upazila election.
As Sona refused to do so, at one stage, the miscreants stabbed him with sharp weapons, leaving him injured.Critically injured, Sona was rushed to Munshiganj General Hospital from where he was later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.Pro-BNP candidates and the party’s leaders at a press briefing around 11:45am blamed the AL activists for the attack.Sadar upazila unit AL president Afsar Uddin on the other hand denied allegation. -UNB
