AL MP Nizam Hazari blamed for attacking Khaleda’s motorcade

Dhaka, 21 Nov -Feni district Awami League leader Azharul Haque Arzu accused his own party lawmaker Nizam Uddin Hazari of having hands in the attack on the motorcade of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Feni last month on her way to Cox’s Bazaar to visit Rohingya refugees.The local AL leader alleged that the attack on Khaleda Zia’s motorcade was preplanned and Feni-2 constituency lawmaker Nizam Hazari had played a key role behind the attack incident.
Arzu, the executive member of Feni District Unit AL, made the allegation at a press conference at the National Press Club in the capital yesterday morning.
The convoy of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, heading towards Cox’s Bazar for her visit to Rohingya refugee camps, came under attack at Mohammad Ali Bazar near Feni district town on October 28. At least 45 people were injured and some 30 vehicles damaged in the incident.
Earlier, after the attack incident, the ruling AL and BNP trades blame each other for the attack on Khaleda’s motorcade.
During the news conference, the local AL leader read out a written statement where he alleged that vehicles of different media outlets including DBC, Channel i, Ekattor and Boishakhi TV were targeted selectively by his (Hazari) cadres on that day to take revenge for broadcasting reports against him.
He also alleged that people of Hindu community of the district are also threatened by Nizam Hazari, also the general secretary of AL district unit. Even this very lawmaker is involved in different criminal offences including murder, corruption, money laundering.
Replying to a query, local AL leader claimed that he informed the party’s central leaders including its general secretary Obaidul Quader about the issue.
However, this correspondent has become failed to reach Nizam Uddin Hazari, also the general secretary of Feni district unit AL, over the phone after repeated attempts. – Staff Reporter
