The Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Jude’s Court of Dhaka on Monday rejected the bail petition of Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony and again decided to record the depositions of the witnesses in a double murder case on May 8.
Judge Shamsun Nahar rejected the petition. Rony’s counsel Kazi Najibullah Hero moved the petition. Earlier, the prosecution sought time as the complainant could not come to the court because of illness.Rony fired shots indiscriminately from his car in the capital’s New Eskaton late at night on April 13 last year, critically injuring a rickshaw-puller and an auto-rickshaw driver. Later, rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 15 while auto-rickshaw driver Yakub Ali died at the same hospital on April 23.
On June 1, last year, the law enforcers arrested Rony from his Dhanmondi residence of the city in connection with the firing. On July 21, last year, SI Dipak Kumar Das of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and also the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka. Rony has been made the lone accused in the charge sheet while a jeep driver and his three friends were made the prosecution witnesses. – Special Correspondent
