All set to observe Amar Ekushey in Rangpur

All necessary preparations have been completed to observe the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day-2015 in a befitting manner here on February 21 (Saturday) next, official sources said.The district administration, different sociocultural and professional organisations, political parties, private bodies, educational and other institutions have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the Day with due solemnity.
The day’s programmes will begin at one minute past midnight on February 21 when Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu and Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht and Acting Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Humayun Kabir will place floral wreaths at the central Shaheed Miner to pay due respects to the Martyrs of Language Movement. Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad and Police Super Abdur Razzaque along with high officials of district and police administrations will also place wreaths there to be followed by the other government and non-government departments and organisations.
Later, leaders of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, different political parties and professional organisations and people from all walks in life will place wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar here to pay homage to the martyrs of great Language Movement. The programmes also include hoisting of the national flag at half-mast atop all government, semi-government, private, commercial buildings and educational institutions, ‘probhat ferries’, decoration of the streets with miniature national flag and coloured flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets. Besides, competitions for the children on drawing, essay writing, hand writing, rendering patriotic songs and sports competitions for the underprivileged children will be arranged along with screening of documentary films on the language movement. Language movement veterans will be accorded receptions and cultural functions will be organised to mark the significance of the day and special prayers will be offered at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of religious worships. The local daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, online and others newspapers will publish special supplementary issues and Rangpur Betar Kendra will air special programmes narrating importance and significance of the Day. The educational institutions, Rangpur City Corporation authorities, different sociocultural, political and professional organisations will also observe the Day through various programmes at the district and upazila towns here on the Day. Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht will attend the main discussion to be arranged by the district administration at the Central Shaheed Minar as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad in the chair on Saturday evening. -BSS, Rangpur
