An alleged robber was killed in a mob attack while attempting to commit a robbery at Mirapara village in Niamatpur upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam, 45, son of late Rahim Baksh of Gulihar Shalbari village of the same upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Niamatpur Police Station M Obaidul Haque said a gang of bandits, numbering 5 to 6, entered the house of Majnu Miah around 2:00 am and tried to take away some valuables from the house.
Hearing the scream of Majnu, local people chased the robbers and caught Saiful while others managed to flee the scene.
Later, the angry mob beat Saiful indiscriminately with sticks, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body on Tuesday morning and sent the same to Naogaon Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
