Alleged ‘terrorist’ killed in Savar ‘gunfight’ near Dhaka

Savar – An alleged terrorist was killed in a gunfight with police at Charigram of Ashulia Savar upazila on the outskirts of the capital early Sunday, UNB news agency reported.The deceased was identified as Rasel Dewan, 30, former general secretary of Ashulia unit of Jatiya Shramik League and son of Piyar Ali, a resident of Niribili in Ashulia.
Officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station Mohsinul Kadir said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area while Rasel along with his associates was taking preparation to commit robbery there in the dead of night.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire at them, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight, police said.
At one stage, Rasel was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while others managed to flee the scene. One firearm was recovered from the spot, he said.
Rasel was wanted in 24 cases including for murder and robbery, the OC added.
