Seasoned actor Aly Zaker received Naren Biswas Padak this year for his contributions to the theater arena in the country.

The award was handed over at a program — in memory of the late Bakshilpacharya (elocutionist) of Kanthoshilon Noren Biswas — at Chhayanaut auditorium in the capital on Saturday.

Eminent Tagore artiste and also president of Kanthoshilon Sanjida Khatun handed over the award to Aly Zaker. She also presided over the program where Dhaka University professor emeritus Dr Anisuzzaman and eminent painter Mustafa Monwar were also present.

The program also included a cultural show where eminent recitation artistes including Asraful Alam, Syed Hasan Imam, Laila Afroz, Mahidul Islam, Rupa Chakraborty and others enthralled the audience with recitation of poems. During the program, two separate documentaries on Noren Biswas and Aly Zaker were screened.

To note, Kanthoshilon has been conferring the Naren Biswas Padak since 1999 commemorating the late linguist, elocutionist, poet, playwright, lyricist and critic professor Naren Biswas, who died on November 16, 1998.
