Visitors and sales reached new peaks at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair as the month long fair, the largest literary event of the country as well as a mega event for the booklovers of the country is going to end today(Monday).Every entrance gate of the fair witnessed crossing large numbers of book lovers most of the time after the gate open yesterday.
Crowd who came at the fair ahead of the closing time (yesterday) were seen very busy with seizing last moment opportunity to collect books of their choices.
Tanzim Nabila a student of Eden college economics department said that she came at the fair with her friends to say good bye to the fair for this year as she will not manage to come on the last day (Monday).
“ I always try to buy my favorite titles of different categories from the Amar Ekushey book fair and also feeling upset as the fair will end tomorrow (Monday) and I have to wait for the next year” she added.
Besides, most of the stalls at the fair premises were seen full of people, choosing their books and that is why stall attendants have been passing busy time on the eve of the closing day of the fair.
Rajib salesman of Agami publications told Independent “numbers of people have been coming today (yesterday) and most of them are buying at least one or two of their favorite books.
Meanwhile, publishers are also satisfied with the sales rate this year though they have some accuses including management system of the fair against the bangla academy authority.
Tarikul Islam publisher of Tammro Lipi publications said that except some of the miss management this year as a whole the fair is good”.
“We are happy with the crowd of the last week of the fair and expecting a good wholesale” he told.
Even small publishers are also quite pleased with their sales rate in the last days of the fair.
Mofidul Haque publisher of Nonggor publications said that in the last days sales rate of small publishers is good than the early days of the fair this year”.
On the other hand DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told the journalists trial of Bawdip publications will be continue for selling book with contents that allegedly hurt the ‘religious sentiment’ of Muslims.
While visiting the fair the commissioner came up with the remarks yesterday.
“Everybody has the right to express their opinion and feelings but it must have to without hurting anyone or any sentiment including religion” he added.
He also expressed satisfaction as the month long fair is going to an end without any turmoil.
Meanwhile, in the afternoon bangla academy held a discussion on “Digital Strategies of liberation war’ at the main stage on the academypremises.
With DG of bangla academy Prof. Sumsuzzaman Khan in the chair, renowned technology specialist Mostafa Zabbar presented a key note paper at the discussion while among others, member of the national parliament Nahim Razzak and Shamshundor Shikder secretary, ministry of information and communication tecnology addressed on the occasion.
A total of 92 titles hit the fair yesterday.
