The annual development programme (ADP) for the upcoming 2014-15 fiscal year is being fixed at Tk 790.31 billion, a 17 percent increase over the current FY.
Tk 81 billion is being earmarked for the construction of the Padma bridge, country’s largest-ever infrastructure project.
The Planning Commission’s General Economics Division Member Shamsul Alam told bdnews24.com that the National Executive Committee (NEC) would approve the ADP in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday.Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will finalise the national budget for the 2014-15 FY, beginning on July 1, by incorporating the government’s revenue and expenditures to the ADP.
He will place the budget, the first of the new government, in parliament on Jun 5.
The budget will be passed late in June after debates.
Alam said the Planning Commission would place the Tk 790.31 billion ADP at the NEC meeting for approval.
He said the government would provide Tk 513.31 billion or around 65 percent of the ADP, while Tk 277 billion was expected as project assistance.
Alam said: “The new ADP has been formulated taking into consideration the government’s election manifesto and continuation of the development works.”
The main ADP for the current 2013-14 FY was Tk 658.72 billion, which was later downsized to Tk 600 billion.
The ADP includes 1,034 projects. Another 681 unallocated and unapproved projects have been included in the ‘green paper’.
The highest allocation – Tk 180.98 billion or 23 percent of the ADP – is going to the communications sector.
It will be followed by education (Tk 94.03 billion) and the power sector (Tk 93 billion) respectively.
The development expenditure of autonomous bodies is being included in the main ADP in the upcoming FY, like the current FY.
Tk 56.85 billion is being allocated for 153 projects of the autonomous bodies and corporations.
Alam said the size of the new budget would be Tk 2.5 trillion. – bdnews24.com
