A political activist was killed in a reported ‘gunfight’ in the Rupnagar Area of Mirpur on Saturday night. The young man has been identified as Emadullah (20) of Baniarpar in Jamalpur district.According to reports Emadullah was taken along with a team of Mirpur Model thana police to recover weapons and explosives at night. When they reached Rupnagar Emadullah’s associated allegedly fired shots at the police team which led to the exchange of fire.
In the said ‘gunfight’ Emadullah died on the spot. His body was transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.
Shibir sources on the other hand claimed Emadullah was arrested by Mirpur Thana police from near their Mirpur-6 residence on suspecion. He was then taken along in rainds on a number of messes from where 9 others were held. At the dead of night he was shot dead. The body was given to Rupnagar Thana to avoid responsibility for the killing. Rupnagar police took the body to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the sources said. – Agencies
