Anti-drug drive on Narcotics Dept-agencies secret list: Asad

Dhaka, May 24 – The countrywide campaign and ongoing killings in reported gunfights with law enforcers are in accordance with the secret list of narcotics traders formed by the Department of Narcotics Control, including intelligence agencies, said Home Minister yesterday. Speaking at an awareness campaign of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at Farmgate yesterday, Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal vowed to eradicate narcotics from Dhaka city. He sought assistance from the city dwellers and asked them to raise awareness in this issue.
The statement came amid criticism of the government’s ‘war on drugs’ the drive against drug dealers is still continuing across the country. Nine more suspected drug peddlers were killed yesterday, taking the tally of dead drug dealers in “gunfights” to 56 in 10 days of the countrywide anti-narcotics crackdown.
He said, ‘earlier DMP operated against the drug in the capital. However, officially the operation started today (Thursday). There will be no drug dealer in Dhaka Metropolitan area. We will inform all of them. ‘Calling everyone to take a stand against drug to build a drug-free Bangladesh, he said.
The Home Minister warned, “The drug has spread even after various efforts in the capital. Drugs dealing will not be compromised in any way. According to the list, everyone will be brought under the law.
He also mentioned that Dhaka is the mirror of the country. So we must need to take action against drug dealers in the capital.
He also warned that according to the list everyone will be brought under the law. Home Minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared zero tolerance strategy against drug dealers like she did against extremist militancy and terrorism.
Kamal said we have prepared a secret list with the help of all the intelligence agencies and Department of Narcotics Control. The country-wide anti-drug operation is being conducted following the list.
“All the drug dealers will be brought to dock according to that list. None would be forgiven,” he added.
The home minister referred to drug addict Oishee Rahman who killed her parents Mahfuzur Rahman and Swapna Rahman to explain the horror of narcotics in people’s lives.
DMP commissioner Aashaduzzaman Mia said that the decision to remove the drug from Dhaka will be “to completely eradicate all the drug spot in Dhaka Metropolitan area”
He said, “Our operation against drug started from the first Ramadan. So far, many drug dealers have been arrested with also the recovery of huge drugs and ammunition. –Staff Reporter
