Dhaka – A high powered team of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday conducted a surprise raid at the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) in the city following allegation of massive corruption and misrules.
ACC director general Mohammad Monir Chowdhury led the six members team, which conducted the sudden raid 11: am.He entered at the room of M Selim Reza, director general of the BMET. Later the ACC DG called ACC director AKM Jayed Hossain to the room of Selim Reza to interrogate him. The ACC team came out from the room around 12:pm.
After the raid, Monir Chowdhury told The Independent that the ACC will take serious action if the allegation of corruption is proved.
According to ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, the ACC team also recorded the statements of BMET officials including it’s DG.
Monir Chowdhury said, the ACC shows zero tolerance to irregularities at the BMET because manpower exports and remittances are the driving forces of the country.
If someone at the bureau is found involved in corruption, he or she won’t be spared, the ACC DG vowed.
Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said, it was the first time in the history of the ACC where a DG himself led the drive.
About the specific allegation against the BMET, he said, the ACC had a written complain of massive corruption in the BMET.
According to the BMET sources, officials became very scared hearing the news of ACC’s drive. Soon after ACC’s arrival in the BMET, the officials of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment who works at the Probashi Bhaban in the capital, became also afraid getting the ACC drive.
