Anti-terror tribunal ‘soon’

The government will set up an Anti-Terror Special Tribunal to try top terrorists and members of the Islamist militant outfits, the Law Minister told Parliament on Wednesday.

Shafique Ahmed made the disclosure in response to a supplementary query of Treasury Bench member Shamsul Haque Chowdhury during the question-answer session.

“It will be possible to form an Anti-Terror Special Tribunal and launch its function very soon,” he said.

Replying to another query of Kabirul Haque MP, the minister said it would be possible to complete the trial of suspected war criminals from districts and upazilas at the two International Crimes Tribunals.

To a question from Nazim Uddin MP on whether seniority was ignored in appointment of judges to the High Court Division and Appellate Division of the Supreme Court since 2008, Ahmed said the issue of appointment of judges in the two divisions was totally different from others.

“There has been no scope of raising question on violation of seniority since the judges are appointed freshly to the Appellate Division,” he said.bdnews24.com
