Apparel show at Alliance Française

DHAKA: The exhibition titled ‘The dream’s Wear: Influenced by Folk Painting and Music’ presented by VIAAN is being held at La Galerie in Dhanmondi’s Alliance Française.Dresses, designed by poet and folklorist Nazmin Mortuza, are on display.
According to the organisers, Nazmin has primarily used the motif of artworks of some unvoiced but talented pata artists.
‘Her endeavour was to present those motifs in the country-made cloths by block print, embroidery and screen print,’ the organiser’s release said.
The artists, whose motifs and artworks are used in designing the dresses for this exhibition, include Shambhu Acharya of Munsiganj, Nikhil Chandra Das of Norail, Sushanta Pal of Rajshahi and Nazir Hossain of Dinajpur.
Some of the artworks of those painters are also on display.
This 14-day exhibition was inaugurated on May 3.
Eminent artist Qayyum Chowdhury inaugurated the exhibition being accompanied by architects Dr Nizamuddin Ahmed and Rafiq Azam.
Alliance Française de Dhaka director Olivier Litvine chaired the inaugural ceremony.
The special attraction of the opening day was the performance of patagaan by Binoy Krishna Bishwash and Arun Das’s team which is based on Nikhil Chandra Das’s patachitra.
This exhibition will remain open to all from Mondays to Thursdays (from 3:00pm to 9:00pm) and from Fridays and Saturdays (from 9:00am to 12:00pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm) except Sundays till May 16.
