Argument in case against Ershad, others deferred again

A Dhaka court on Thursday once again deferred the argument in the case filed against Jatiya Party Chairman and Prime Minister’s Special Envoy HM Ershad and others in the case filed for corruption in connection with the purchase of ruder for Bangladesh Air Force (BAF).
Judge-in-Charge of Dhaka’s Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court Emrul Kayesh on Thursday fixed May 25 in response to the time petitions of the prosecution and defence.Other accused in the case are Momtaj Uddin Ahmed, former Assistant Chief of BAF, former BAF chief Sultan Mahmud and Director of United Traders AKM Musa. He is on the run since the beginning of the case.
The then Bureau of Anti Corruption filed the case against the accused on May 4, 1992. The accused have been charged fro incurring a loss of Tk 64 crore 4 lakh 42 thousand 918 to the national exchequer purchasing ruder from the USA instead of France. – Court Correspondent
