Stop implicating opposition leaders in false cases: 20-Party

BNP-led 20-party alliance on Thursday demanded an end to implicating opposition leaders and activists in false cases and stop arresting them staging drama in the name of recovery arms and bombs and carrying out enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killing.
BNP joint secretary general Barkatullah Bulu made the demand at a press statement issued yesterday from an unidentified location.The statement alleged that a Juba Dal leader and an elected member of Khedapara Union Parisahd at Monirampur upazila in Jessore Mesbahuddin Sentu was killed in police custody yesterday but his death was described as due to run over by train. In past two months at least five political activists have been victims of extra judicial killing in the same upazila, it claimed.
The government has been carrying out repression on opposition leaders and activists ignoring the international call to resolve the political crisis through discussions, said the statement.
The statement also condemned anti-people and anti-national activities of the government saying that it has been hatching conspiracy to paint the country as a nation of terrorists and militants.
The statement said police staged drama in recovery of arms and bombs from an empty flat of Juba Dal leader Mir Nawaz Ali where he was not staying and recovery of arms and bombs from a hostel of Mohsin College in Chittagong where 81 sleeping examinees were arrested.
However, the statement claimed that police was not filing any cases against ruling party cadres and arresting any of them even after recovery of arms from their possessions.
The 20-party alliance reiterated its demand to resolve the political impasse through talks by stopping of repression. It also demanded the return of all victims of enforced disappearance including BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed to their families in fit and healthy conditions.
