A group art exhibition ShohorNama inaugurated at the Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct on March 3. The venue features works by Tayeba Begum Lipi, Najmun Nahar Keya and Shimul Saha and Kao Jun-Honn (Taiwan) while Salauddin Ahmed’s work is being displayed at the Gyantapas Abdur Razzaq Bidyapeeth. The exhibition will continue till March 16 simultaneously at both the venues, according to a press release.Live art performances by Saleh Mahmud and Jewel A Rob and a discussion among the curators and the artists were held as part of the exhibition.
Shohor Nama is a three month-long Dhaka city based art project curated by Mahbubur Rahman and organised by Britto Arts Trust. It is a part of a larger project encompassing six Asian cities ‘Topography of Mirror Cities’ curated by Sandy Hsiu-Chih Lo from Taiwan.
Bengal Arts Programme is the exhibition partner of the final exhibition of Shohor Nama that showcases fresh works of five artists from Bangladesh and Taiwan and the archival materials of the previous displays of various art projects. A total of 50 artists and 4 filmmakers took part in the entire Shohor Nama project where the artists explored how they respond to Dhaka city through different mediums.
Shohor Nama’s first public display was ‘Moving Object’ which was held between January 30 and February 10 at Britto Space. It was an outcome of a three-week workshop participated by ten artists who created kinetic sculptures. Another 3 day long public display of Shohor Nama featuring live art, film screening and graffiti on garbage containers were held from February 3 to 5 at the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka premises, reports internet.
