Asia Foundation Bangladesh donates 3000 books in Khulna

Dhaka, Feb 20 – The Asia Foundation-Bangladesh organised a book donation event supported by Pubali Bank Ltd. on 20th February, 2018, at SOS Hermann Gmeiner School auditorium in Khulna. The Foundation donated approximately 3,000 Bangla and English language books worth approximately 40 lakh taka to 25 schools to promote the importance of books and reading among students and school teachers of Khulna District.Md. Amin Ul Ahsan, Deputy Commissioner of Khulna, attended the event as the Chief Guest; Sara Taylor, The Asia Foundation’s Country Representative in Bangladesh, attended as a Special Guest; Ramendranath Poddar, District Primary Education Office; Md. Aminul Islam, Thana Education Office; Swapan Kumar Guha, Executive Director, Rupantar; Faruque Ahmed, President, Khulna Press Club; Professor Anwarul Kabir, General Secretary, Umesh Chandra Public Library and Ms. Sukla Dey, Program Manager, The Asia Foundation, also attended the event along with representatives and students from local schools.
The guests focused on promoting reading habits among students and teachers and emphasized the importance of book reading, girls’ education and reaching underprivileged and rural community schools.
