Auto-rickshaw driver sues cops

An auto-rickshaw driver has sued three police officers accusing them of “giving away” his vehicle, after recovering it from auto lifters, to someone else as he did not pay bribe to them.Ejahar Mia filed the case with the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge SM Mujibur Rahman on Thursdayhe court ordered Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Additional Commissioner Banaj Kumar Majumder to investigate the matter and submit a report by Jan 28.
The accused are CMP traffic division’s Deputy Commissioner Kusum Dewan, Traffic Inspector (administration-north) Meer Nazrul Islam and Traffic Sergeant Mamunul Haq.Ejahar in his petition said his auto-rickshaw was stolen from city’s Pahartali area in 2009 and police recovered it four years later in April last year along with another tri-wheeler bearing the same number.
He said he went to the police officers with his ownership documents but they demanded Tk 0.2 million as bribe for giving back his tri-wheeler.
Ejahar alleged that the officers handed the auto-rickshaw to someone else as he declined to pay the bribe. – bdnews24.com
