B Chowdhury, Kader Siddiky to launch alternative force

President of Bikalpadhara Bangladesh Prof Dr AQM Barruddoza Chowdhury and Krishak Sramik  Janata League chief Bangabir Kader Suddiky on Wednesday announced to form an alternative force to go to power.Both the leaders said discussion was on and journalists would be informed in appropriate time. The two leaders made the announcement at a joint press conference following a meeting between the leaders of Bikalpadhara Bangladesh and Krishak Sramik Janata League at Silver Tower at Gulshan in the city.
Dr Chowdhury apprehended that the democracy in the country would be at stake if the next general election in not held under a caretaker government. “The demand will be realised by creating greater unity among the opposition parties,” he said.
“The present state of the country is not good at all as the Prime Minister sometimes talks in undemocratic languages. We are afraid of the future of the country,” said Barruddoza Chowdhury the former President.
He said, “We have started talks for creating a an alternative major force. We will discuss to chose the path of democraty. You (journalists) will get its result very soon.”
Asked whether they would carryout movement with the BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance for restoration of the caretaker administration, Dr Chowdhury said, “You will see it in future.” “Our only motto will be to resist the government during the election,” he added.
He termed the defeat of the ruling party backed candidates in the city corporation elections as defeat of the government. B Chowdhury said the people have no confidence on the present government. “Restoration of caretaker government is needed to hold a free and fair election. We will discuss with other parties on the issue,” he said.
He said mental torture on Nobel Laureate Prof Mohammad Yunus was one of the factors behind the defeat of the ruling party backed candidate in five city corporations. Grameen Bank’s workers didn’t vote for the ruling party supported candidates, he observed.
Kader Siddiqui said they didn’t want to create a force not to be third force. “People take part in competition to obtain the first position. We also want to emerge as the major alternative force in the country,” he added.
Bikalpadhara secretary general Maj (Retd) Abdul Mannan, general secretary of KSJL Habibur Rahman Talukder, Mahi B Chowdhury, among others, were present at the two hour-long meeting.
