Ban ki-moon concerned at arrest warrant against Khaleda

The secretary general of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon is very much concerned at the arrest warrant issued against Bnp chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on Wednesday and renewed his appeal to the political leaders of Bangladesh to seek peaceful resolution of the present crisis for long term peace and stability.
This was stated by UN secretary general’s spokesman Stéphane Dujarri at the regular media briefing at UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday.
Responding to a question the spokesman said, “The Secretary General remains very concerned at the arrest warrant that was issued against the leader of the BNP. ‘I think as we’re seeing these heightened tensions and the continuing violence, political violence we’re seeing in Bangladesh, and again, he renews his appeal to all political leaders to seek a peaceful resolution to the current crisis for the good of long term development and the stability of Bangladesh.”
Responding to another question on the arrest and remanding of Nagotik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna the spokesperson said, “You know, I have no specific information on the case that you mention or the people you mention. There are procedures in place in order to ensure that DPKO uniformed personnel meet the requirements that we have and also in terms of human rights. If I have any information on those specific cases, I will share them with you.” – News Desk
