Bangladesh stock markets on upbeat note

Dhaka, Jan 3 – Trading on the country’s two bourses – Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – is underway with upward trends of share-price indices on Wednesday.Within first one hour of the day’s trading, the benchmark index of the DSE rose 16.87 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse gained 24.49 points.
DSEX, the Broad Index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 16.87 points or 0.26 percent to stand at 6,296.83 at 11:46 am.
The two other indices also edged higher.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 4.39 points or 0.31 percent to stand at 1,406.78 points.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips gained 4.51 points or 0.19 percent to stand at 2,295.89.
Trade deals stood at 27,625 shares to stand at Tk 1,356 million on the DSE, riding on United Power Generation & Distribution Company and Dragon Sweater & Spinning.
Of the issues traded, 166 advanced, 59 declined and 58 remained unchanged.
United Power Generation & Distribution Company Ltd topped the turnover list with shares worth Tk 184.66 million having changed hands.
Following the suit, the Chittagong Stock Exchange Selective Categories Index (CSCX) climbed up to 11,765 by gaining over 24.49 points at about 11:22 am.
Out of the issues traded, 77 gained, 21 declined and 23 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 45.79 million. – – UNB
