Right-hand swashbuckling batsman Glenn Maxwell has said that he wishes to return to the Test side. Maxwell had seen how the Ashes unfolded and has said that he expects to get a call from the selectors for upcoming Test matches. Maxwell’s Test record is not very great although he has played just 3 Tests. He has an average of 13 in his six innings in Tests. However, his ODI record is very impressive; in 49 matches he has an average of 35 with a strike rate of 126. At present he is playing county cricket in England. He also scored a fine 140 in a match. Some cricket experts including Fox Sports cricket expert Brendon Julian has urged the selectors to give a chance to Maxwell in future Test series’. If you look at the way as I was picked in the Indian tour (in 2013), the first Test I was predominantly a bowling all-rounder and that probably showed in my results.” Australia’s next tour is to Bangladesh and given Maxwell’s impressive skills in playing spin bowling it is expected that he may get a call for the tour.
He added, “I was bowling really well but wasn’t making a whole lot of runs. I got to Dubai and didn’t bowl a lot and batted in the top order. Hopefully this time I can be picked as a genuine all-rounder and bat at five or six and fill the gap that some of the experienced players will leave after they retire. It’s something I want to make my permanent position and hopefully hold it for a long time.” With Michael Clarke calling it a day and Shaun Marsh and Adam Voges not in prime touch there is a gap in Australia’s middle order. It appears that Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh may play at fifth and sixth spot respectively. Maxwell’s job will be to perform with both bat and ball. “I feel like my game is peaking at the right time. I feel like I’ve got a really good understanding about it at the moment, so it would be nice to be picked while I’m in form and hopefully carry that form through this one-day series into that Test series,” he concluded. – Cricket Country via Google
