Bangladesh’s GDP growth to hit 8pc in FY19-20: ADB

Dhaka, Apr 3 (UNB) – Bangladesh’s economy will grow at 8 percent in 2019-20 fiscal, according to the Asian Development Outlook 2019 released here on Wednesday.

“Bangladesh experienced a strong GDP growth in FY2018-19. The country will continue to achieve GDP growth in FY19-20 at 8 percent which will stay robust during FY20-21,” said the report.

Mentioning that Bangladesh’s economy is in good shape and likely to grow further, the report said, “Bangladesh is likely to be the fastest growing economy in Asia and the Pacific.”

It also underlined that such momentum is needed to be sustained to achieve Bangladesh’s goal of becoming a higher middle-income country and beyond.

Bangladesh must focus on prudent macroeconomic policies, sound debt management, resource mobilisation, and strengthening banking sector, it added.
