The students of Barisal Nursing College continuing their agitation
programmes for the tenth day on Monday boycotting classes started
hunger strike till death in the campus to press home their six-point
demands.
To realise their demands, the 260 nursing students of the college
stopping academic activities seized and locked their college campus
since June 22.
The hunger strike on Monday was addressed, among others, by Maksuda
Aktar Keya, Kaniz Fatema Swarna, Rowshanara Khanam, Ziaur Rahman and
Mahmudul Hasan.
The speakers said they will continue demonstrating until all demands
are met. Their demands are introduction of a six to twelve-month
internship on completion of four-year BSc in Nursing course, fixing
the stipend at Tk 3,000 for each student and allowing students to wear
aprons on top of their uniforms during clinical practice, introducing
Masters level Scouring course, quota in BCS for employment and opening
nursing faculty.
Mentionable nursing students not allowed wearing apron on their
uniform and Tk 850 monthly stipend is given with a yearly raise of Tk
50 during their 48-month-long course without internship.
Minoti Majumdar, principal of Barisal Nursing College acknowledging
the logicality of the demands of the students said, “We informed the
