BB steps to stop money laundering: Deals inked with 13 countries

Bangladesh Bank (BB) singed bilateral deal with 13 countries to stop money laundering, terrorists financing and to take back the laundered money.

A source in BB said that BB inked the deals with the countries in different times in last five years and Bangladesh can know all information in these regard.

Bangladesh couldn’t be member of Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence and later signed the bilateral deals.

General Manager of Bangladesh Bank Financial Intelligence unit Debprasad Debnath told banglanews, “We signed deals with 13 countries for sharing information about money laundering and terrorists financing.”

The 13 countries are- Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Indonesia, South Korea, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, UK, Singapore, Mongolia and South Africa.

As per the deal, these countries are bound to inform Bangladesh any information of financial crimes as when demand or willingly.

Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence, established in 1995, has 130 member countries and working to prevent money laundering, terrorist financing and corruption. Banglanews24.com
