Bangladeshi short film “Bhoy – The Fear of Silence” won the Best Short Film Award at the 7th Delhi International Film Festival 2018 in New Delhi, India recently. The 22-minute long short film was directed by young Bangladeshi director Zuairijah Mou.
This 22-minute long short film was directed by young Bangladeshi director Zuairijah Mou. “Bhoy – The Fear of Silence” was inspired by Nabarun Bhattacharya’s story, “Mritodeho Dorshon.”
Director Mou expressed her proud feelings talking to Showtime: “First, it was a great honour for me to represent Bangladesh in such a big platform. Many film directors-producers across the world get together at such festivals and the opportunity of networking that I got being a part of this event was really a great experience in my film career. I got to watch movies from different countries with the film-makers and was able to know many aspects of their filmmaking. They were also showing interest in Bangladeshi films. Such an achievement really leaves a positive impact on the present and future state of film-making.”
The story of the film centres on the life of a traumatized individual named Niloy. He is a writer who experiences an existential crisis in the wake of the social and political enigmas of Bangladesh. The film travels back to the time of the blogger murders and narrates a story about the importance of freedom of speech.
The film was funded by the government of Bangladesh and it was a Bangladesh Cinema & Television Institute production.
Hassan Jamil, Chandana Biswas, Raisuddin, Mustafa Tarek, and Nihar Likhan played important characters in this film. Roni Nazim composed the music of “Bhoy – The Fear of Silence.”
Mitul Ahmed was the executive producer of this short film, while Raowan Sayema handled the cinematography. The film was edited by Chaitali Samadder.
The seventh edition of the Delhi International Film Festival was held in New Delhi on October 14-18. This year, 194 films from 57 countries were showcased at this five-day long international film festival.
