Bd govt planning to 30% permanent prosecutors

Dhaka, Feb 26 (UNB) – The government is going to introduce independent prosecution service and appoint 30 percent of the prosecutors on permanent basis, Law Minister Anisul Huq said on Tuesday

“Currently, prosecutors are temporarily appointed based on political considerations. We want to appoint 30 percent prosecutors permanently and 70 percent politically,” he said.

The government has taken an initiative to appoint prosecutors through the Judicial Service Commission, he said after Muktodhara Foundation handed over a letter from New York governor announcing September 25 as ‘Bangladesh Immigration Day’.

“We want to prepare a salary structure for them and have taken steps to increase their salary,” he said.

Replying to a question about the prosecutors’ salary hike, he said: “A prosecutor, appointed for a sensitive case, is paid Tk 500 daily. Their monthly remuneration is Tk 2,000.”

He said he hoped the salary will be raised from the next fiscal year.
