JU teachers demand dean election

Jahangirnagar University, Feb 26 (UNB)- A group of Jahangirnagar University (JU) teachers have demanded dean election as tenures of all deans have already expired.

The last dean election was held on May 10, 2016.

A representative team of ‘Sammilito Shikkhak Samaj’ met JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam at her office around 11am on Tuesday with their demands.

They staged a sit-in in front of the VC office demanding tentative date for the election. They ended their protest after getting assurance from the VC.

“VC Prof Farzana Islam assured us that the university administration will organise dean and syndicate election by May 6,” Prof Jamal Uddin, member secretary of the teachers’ alliance, told journalists.

‘Sammilito Shikkhak Samaj’ President Prof Ajit Kumar Majumder noted that the VC will have to declare election schedule by March 22 if she wants to hold the polls by May 6.

Jahangirnagar University Teachers’ Association Secretary Prof Md Sohel Rana urged the university administration to stop recruitment of new teachers before the dean election.
