BD Minorities demand equal per capital allocation in budget

Dhaka, June 23 (UNB)- Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad, an umbrella platform for the country’s religious minorities, on Sunday urged the government to allocate the budget equally on a per capita basis between both the majority and minority groups of the country.

The organisation’s general secretary Rana Dasgupta said this at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club in the capital.

“We notice from reviewing the national budget over the last several years that the budgetary allocation for majority and minority groups was not equal. There was Tk 11 to Tk12 for per capital allocation for majority,  while it was only Tk 3  for minority groups people in religious ministry’s budget allocation without projects,” he said.

Rana Dasgupta also demanded Tk 20 crore allocation for minorities pilgrims in the budget for 2019-20.

“We demand to form a Minorities Ministry and National Minority Commission for sake of self protection and development of minorities people,”

Rana Dasgupta further demanded a budget allocation to set up worship places and cultural centers for minorities people in every upazila.
