BD-origin German man held with 9 ‘look-alike’ pistols at airport

A Bangladesh-born German citizen was arrested along with nine pistol-like objects at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here on Tuesday, customs officials said.Earlier at noon, Dhaka Customs House Assistant Commissioner HM Ahsanul Kabir, however, said Bangladesh-origin German citizen Monir Ben Ali was detained as nine pistols were recovered from his possession. He landed at the airport at 9:45am from Dubai by a flight of Emirates Airlines.

Tipped off, customs officials challenged him at the airport’s green channel and recovered the firearms searching his luggage.Ahsan said they are also questioning another Bangladesh-origin German citizen, Aminul Islam, who arrived at the airport by the same flight, suspecting his involvement in it.Dhaka customs house so far arranged no press briefing at the airport in this regard though it had earlier announced to arrange it in the afternoon.The Customs officials distributed an unsigned press release among the reporters present there.According to the press release, they detained Monir Ben Ali along with 9 ‘pistols-like objects’ and several bottles of foreign liquor searching his luggage.Ali claimed that those pistols-like objects are used in shooting films or dramas.
