Dhaka – BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday alleged that Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), now BGB, has been turned into a cat from a tiger.
“As BDR has been wakened, Myanmar border guards (Nasaka) showed their audacity in intruding inside the Bangladesh territory. And the border killing are increasing,” she said while speaking at an iftar and doa mahfil at a hotel in Gulshan in the city.Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal, a front organisation of the BNP, organised the function in honour of freedom fighters of the country.
Khaleda criticized the government for imposing only Tk 192 as tool for allowing Indian freight through Bangladesh.
“When the people have to pay Tk 500 to Tk 800 for using the Jamuna bridge and Daudkandi bridge…It is shameful to impose only Tk 192 for India,” she said. Why the government takes the money? She asked.
The former premier said the people freed the country from Pakistanis not to become subservient of another country.
“May be I am not protesting but why not the freedom fighters,” she asked.
The BNP leader demanded fair share of waters of common rivers from India saying, “We do not want mercy from anybody but want our just share. But we are not giving that, she alleged.
She further alleged that the country has no independence and sovereignty.
“I am not afraid to speak. I am talking and will continue to speak. If necessary, I am ready to take to to the street. But all must get united before it,” she added.
Liberation war organizer and LDP chairpman Col (Retd) Oli Ahmed, BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, vice chairman Maj (Retd0 Hafizuddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, Kallayan Party chief Maj Gen (REtd) Syed Mohammed Ibrahim, Bir Protik, Maj Gen (Retd) Ainuddin, Dr Jafrullah Chowdhury, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Jatiyatabadi Muktijddha Dal president Ishtiaque Aziz Ulfat, among others, attended the iftar party.
Khaleda started her mass contact programme through attending huge number of iftar parties throughout the month of Ramadan. She took iftar with orphans and ulema on the first day of the Ramadan and wrapped up her iftar programme yesterday by taking iftar with the freedom fighters.
The former premier took part in 21 iftar parties organized by her party, front organizations and allies of the 20-party alliance. She was also scheduled to attend three more iftar parties of Jamaat, NPP and NDP but could not joined them due to “police obstruction.” – Staff Reporter
