Bengali Music Concert: Haimanti Sukla and Manzurul Islam Khan

Alliance Française de Dhaka is elated to organise an evening of music by the eminent singer Haimanti Sukla as well as Manzurul Islam Khan at its La Galerie on Friday, 12 April 2019 from 6.30 pm to 8 pm. The concert will be followed by the launching ceremony of a new CD of Manzurul Islam Khan named ‘‘Joshnar Beshamal’’.

Equally adept at classical and all forms of semi-classical music, Haimanti can sing a full concert comprising khayal, thumri, ghazal, Dadra, chaiti and Bengali film and non-film songs timeless for their lyricism, composition¬ al value and unmatched rendition. Trained by her father, Pandit Harihar Sukla and another stalwart musician, Pandit Chinmay Lahiri, she has sung for legendary music composers such as Hemanta Mukherjee, Manna Dey, Salil Chowdhury, Naushad to name a few.’
Fayza Haq wrote in The Daily Star, ‘(Kamal Lohani) said that Manzurul Islam Khan, the featured artiste of the evening, had tried his best to keep alive the tradition of ghazals in the country. […] He learnt under Ustad Abul Kalam Siddiqui, Ustad Shankar Das, and under Ustad Nurul Islam. He also studied at Chhayanaut.
