BGB seized Tk. 1217 cr. smuggled goods in 2017

Dhaka – Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in its countrywide drive seized smuggled goods and contraband items, including yaba pills and phensidyle, worth around Tk. 1217.55 crore in 2017, which is Tk. 331 crore higher compared to previous year 2016.Sources at the BGB headquarters said the paramilitary force recovered smuggled goods and contraband drugs worth around Tk. 1161.67 crore in 2016.Besides, the paramilitary force also detained 2689 people for their alleged involvement in smuggling, including illegal drugs, and 1114 others for illegally crossing of Bangladesh territory during the period between January 1 and December 31 in 2017.The smuggled contraband drugs included 1,55,71,013 pieces of yaba tablets, 1,40,608 bottles of phensidyl, 44.324 kg of heroin, 16,357 kgs of cannabis, 1,40,608 bottles of foreign wines, 49,650 cans of bear, 28,280 seductive injections and 1,67,45,251 other tablets, while smuggled goods included 2,53,908 pieces of sharees, and 42.106 kg gold.The BGB also seized 65 pistols, 48 guns, 300 bullets, 61 magazines and one revolver during the period, said BGB Public Relation Officer (PRO) Mohammad Mohsin Reza.UNB news agency
