Fakhrul Arefin Khan’s Liberation War-based film Bhuban Majhi is going to take part in two foreign film festivals- Guwahati International Film Festival and Asian Film Festival, Barcelona in Spain. The award winning film Bhuban Majhi has already participated in many major international film festivals and has been screened in several places in the world.
The Guwahati International Film Festival will be held in India’s Guwahati from October 25 to 31 and Asian Film Festival, Barcelona will be held from October 31 to November 11.
With Indian noted actor Parambrata Chatterjee and Bangladeshi actress Aparna Ghosh in the lead roles, the film was released on March 3 last year.
Bhuban Majhi explores two time periods simultaneously – 1970 to 1971, and 2004 to 2013. The film opens in 1970, depicting the rise of a rebel in a common man, played by Parambrata, who struggles with his ideals, and ends with the philosophy of Baul Ananda Shai in 2013.
Nahir, played by Parambrata, comes to Kushtia to complete his graduation a few days before the 1970 election. The ongoing countrywide turmoil revolving around the movement for independence in the then East Pakistan and the elections don’t seem to move him in the slightest. All he seems to be bothered about is his love for theatre and Farida.
As can be surmised Nahir also embodies the contradictory nature of most humans. However as a patriot, Nahir feels the urge to take part in the war, but the passion for artistic creation inherent within him wants to attain independence in a peaceful manner.
