Biman’s all-women flight marks Women’s Day

Dhaka – On the occasion of World Women Day, national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Wednesday operated a special ‘all women flight’-BG-603 in Dhaka to Sylhet route.Captain Tania Reza and First Officer Sarwat Siraj Antara operated the Boeing 737-800 with six female cabin crews.
Biman operated this special flight to pay respect to the contribution of women and to encourage women in aviation sector as well as inspire them to move forward matching up with other airlines globally, said a Biman press release.
The flight took off at 01.15pm from the domestic terminal.
Speaking on the occasion, Biman MD AM Mosaddik Ahmed said, Biman has now 140 pilots of which nine are lady pilots. Besides, female employees are working with efficiency in ground service, engineering section and other departments of Biman, he added.
“By 2030, Biman has taken a plan to have about 50% female employees,” he said.
Talking about the flight, First Officer Antara said they operate flight regularly, but this special flight on the special day is an inspiration for the country’s women for this challenging job.
Antara has joined Biman in 2011 and gained experience of flying with Dash8-Q400 and Boeing 737-800 so far.
Now, she is dreaming to fly more and lead Biman’s fleet from the front.
Captain Tania Reza joined Biman in 2000. She operated F-28, DC-10, Airbus-A310 and Boeing 737-800. She has so far gained 6000 mils of flying experience. – Staff Reporter
