Owners seek three years to relocate BGMEA comnplex

Dhaka – Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Wednesday filed a petition before the Appellate Division seeking three years’ time to relocate their 15-storied complex at Hatirjheel in Dhaka, which has been ordered for demolition.The BGMEA authority filed the petition as per the apex court directive. The Appellate Division is likely to hear on the petition on Thursday (today), Barrister Imtiaz Moinul Islam, a lawyer for BGMEA said.
In an order, the apex court on March 5, dismissed a petition filed by BGMEA seeking review of its judgment that upheld a High Court order directing the authorities concerned to demolish the unauthorised multi-storey office building built on the capital’s Begunbari canal and Hatirjheel lake.
It also asked the BGMEA to submit a petition by March 9 stating the time it would take to bring it down and fixed to pass an order on the application on Thursday. – Staff Reporter
