Blockade victims’ families attacked Khaleda: Khokan

Awami League-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Sayeed Khokon on Tuesday said aggrieved family members of the victims who were killed or injured in arson attacks during the BNP-sponsored hartals, blockade made the attack on BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at Karwanbazar.
“Khaleda Zia’s hands are stained with the blood of Dhaka city’s people. The aggrieved family members of those who were burned in petrol bomb and arson attacks during hartals and blockade enforced by BNP carried out the attack on her out of grievances,” he said.
Khokon, also the organising secretary of Dhaka City Unit Awami League, made the remarks while carrying out election campaign in the city’s Azimpur area.Replying to a question whether the attack on Khaleda Zia would have any impact on election, Khokhon said, “This is a matter relating to the aggrieved family members of arson victims and Khaleda Zia. But we want a peaceful environment for election.”
Flanked by local Awami League leaders and both rebel and party-backed councillor contenders, Khokon sought votes at Ward No 26 (former 62) and 23(former 59) Azimpur, BGB Gate No 3 and the adjacent area, Dhaka Medical College Quarters and Amtola area. – Unb
