A blogger was stabbed to death and his wife also was critically injured in teachers and Students center area on Dhaka University campus on Thursday night.
The victim identified as Abhijit Roy (37) was the son of DU physics department professor Ajoy Roy. Abhijit also worked in the USA and a regular columnist of online news portal and founder of a blog –Muktomona. His wife Rafida Ahmed Bonna (34) received critical injuries during the stabbing is alsoa blogger.Police said that unidentified assailants hacked and seriously injured writer Abhijit Roy and his wife Rafida Ahmed Banna at Dhaka University’s TSC intersection at around 9:15pm.
Shabagh police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Wahiduzzaman rescued them and sent them to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Later, duty- doctor in the emergency section of the DMCH declared Abhijit dead. His wife Banna is now undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Abhijit is well known for his books ‘Biswaser Virus’ and ‘Sunyo theke Mahabiswa’.
His father Ajoy Roy also claimed that Abhijit was threatened before by some fundamentalist bloggers saying ‘You will be murdered like Humayan Azad”
Abhijit’s wife Bonna told journalists that they came under attack while returning from Amar Eksuhey book fair at Bangla Acacdemy.
“Coming from America, we were staying at a relative’s house at Indira road area in the city” she added
Meanwhile, different leftist students’ organizations led-by Bangladesh Chahtar union brought our protest procession on the DU campus demanding exemplary punishment of the killers. – Staff Reporter
