Awmi League has nominated Annisul Huq and Sayeed Khokon as mayor candidates for Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations respectively.
Online portal bdnews24.com has published a news item quoting top Ganabhaban sources about the nomination of former BGMEA chief Huq and former Dhaka mayor Mohammad Hanif’s son Khokon as the mayor candidates of the bifurcated Dhaka City Corporation (DCC).The election has remained suspended even after about two and a half years of the bifurcation of the DCC.
The term of the last elected DCC ended in May 2007 – five years after the last polls for the undivided DCC held in 2002.
Political pundits say Dhaka City Corporation election was avoided following negative results in four city corporations of Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet. Thereafter the DCC was bifurcated but election was deleyed time and again on different pleas – News Desk
