Bnp affiliates JCD, Jubo Dal men killed in Barisal ‘shootout’

A Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD)activist and a Jubo Dal man were killed in a reported ‘shootout’ with police in Agailjhara upazila of the district early Saturday.
The deceased were identified as JCD man Tipu Hawlader, 26, and Jubo Dal functionary Kabir Mollah, 32.
Manirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Agailjhara Police Station, said police arrested Tipu and Kabir in capital Dhaka on Friday in a case filed in connection with the arson attack on a truck in the upazila last week.
Police launched a drive along with Tipu and Kabir in the Bypass area of the upazila around 4am to recover arms, he said,
‘Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, their cohorts opened fire on them, prompting police to retaliate that a gunfight’, the OC claimed.
The two activists of the BNP’s two associate bodies men were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, Manirul added.
Police sent the bodies to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, district BNP general secretary Akhan Kuddusur Rahman alleged that police killed Tipu and Kabir in the name of gunfight. – UNB

In Dhaka Police detained BNP national executive committee member Major (retd) Hanif in the city’s Banani area on Saturday morning.
Law enforcers picked the BNP leader up around 6:45am on his way to the residence of party standing committee member Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, said BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan.
He said Hanif was supposed to go to the Central Shaheed Minar along with Mahbubur Rahman to pay homage to the language martyrs when police detained him.
