BNP announces 21 new executive committee members’

The BNP yesterday inducted another batch of new faces in its national executive committee in a bid to rejuvenate the party rank and file.BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the names of 20 assistant organising secretaries, two each for party’s 10 organisational divisions, at a press conference at party headquarters in the city.

The names of assistant organising secretaries were announced in third phases one month after the party’s national council. Of them, 18 faces are new and two are from the previous committee.

The newly announced assistant organising secretaries general are: Advocate Abdus Salam Azad and Shafiqul Islam Babul (Dhaka Division), Mahbubur Rahman Shamim and Abul Hashem Bakar (Chittagong Division), Abdul Momin Talukder and Shahin Shawkat (Rajshahi Division), Aninda Islam Amit and Joyanta Kumar Kundu (Khulna Division), Prof Akand Kuddusur Rahman and Mahbubul Haq Nannu (Barisal Division), Dildar Hossain Selim and Kalimuddin Milon (Sylhet Division), Shamsuzzaman and Jahangir Hossain (Rangpur Division), Shariful Islam and Wares Ahmed (Mymensingh Division), Ali Newaz Khoiam and Selimuzzaman (Faridpur Division) and Mostaque Hossain and Abdul Awal Khan (Comilla).

Besides, Col (Retd) Anwarul Azim was announced as organising secretary for Comilla Division.

With this names of 40 leaders of the party’s national executive committee were in three phases.

In the first phase, Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been appointed as party’s full-fledged secretary general, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi as senior joint secretary general and Mizanur Rahman Sinha and treasurer.

On April 9, names of seven joint secretaries general and nine organising secretaries were announced in the second phase. Six of the joint secretaries general and eight of organising secretaries were chosen from the younger generation of leaders.

Earlier, Khaleda Zia has been re-elected as party chairperson and Tarique Rahman as senior vice chairman.

Party councillors, who approved their election in the council, entrusted the responsibility to choice the leaders for central committees.

Party insiders said the standing committee and the names of rest of the national executive committees would be announced by this month.
