FROM GAZIPUR: Out of 57 wards opposition BNP-backed candidates as councilors won in 39 wards in the maiden Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) poll.Ruling Awami League-backed candidates as councilors won in the rest 18 wards.
Election Commission (EC) declared the result unofficially on Saturday night.
Earlier in the day, the voting in the maiden election to the city corporation ended at 4:00pm as it began at 8:00am.
Sources at the returning officer office said voters in some 37 polling centers cast their votes even after 4:00pm as the queues there were too long.
Returning Officer Matiar Rahman told banglanews that some 60 to 65 percent votes were cast in the election.
